The inherent springiness of DNA may be part of the spindle’s tension-sensing mechanism. During mitosis, tension between chromosomes indicates that each of two sister chromosomes is properly attached to its own spindle pole. The creation of tension requires a protein called cohesin, which glues sisters together until its cleavage at anaphase. But lots of cohesin is seen even at sister centromeres that are widely separated. Bloom and colleagues set out to understand what cohesin is doing at these locations, which seem too far apart for

Tunneling nanotubes (TNT) are induced by HIV-infection of macrophages: a potential mechanism for intercellular HIV trafficking.
Cell to cell communication is essential for the organization/coordination of multicellular systems and cellular development. Cellular communication is mediated by soluble factors, including growth factors, neurotransmitters, cytokines/chemokines, gap junctions, and the recently described tunneling nanotubes (TNT). TNT are long cytoplasmatic bridges that enable long range directed communication ...
متن کاملSPREAD DATA ANALYSIS OF ALUMINUM OXIDE SPLATS REINFORCED WITH CARBON NANOTUBES
Coating of a surface by droplet spreading plays an important role in many novas industrial processes, such as plasma spray coating, ink jet printing, nano safeguard coatings and nano self-assembling. Data analysis of nano and micro droplet spreading can be widely used to predict and optimize coating processes. In this article, we want to select the most appropriate statistical distribution for ...
متن کاملTunneling Nanotubes: Intimate Communication between Myeloid Cells
Tunneling nanotubes (TNT) are dynamic connections between cells, which represent a novel route for cell-to-cell communication. A growing body of evidence points TNT towards a role for intercellular exchanges of signals, molecules, organelles, and pathogens, involving them in a diverse array of functions. TNT form among several cell types, including neuronal cells, epithelial cells, and almost a...
متن کاملStability Analysis of a Fractional Order Model of HIV virus and AIDS Infection in the Community
In this paper a non-linear model with fractional order is presented for analyzing and controlling the spread of HIV virus. Both the disease-free equilibrium and the endemic equilibrium are found and their stability is discussed. The basic reproduction number , which is a function of the constant parameters in the model, plays an essential role in the stability of the ...
متن کاملAIDS Epidemic Modeling With Different Demographic Structures
The most urgent public health problem today is to devise effective strategies to minimize the destruction caused by the AIDS epidemic. Mathematical models based on the underlying transmission mechanisms of the AIDS virus can help the medical/scientific community understand and anticipate its spread in different populations and evaluate the potential effectiveness of different approaches for bri...
